Katy Flood has been speaking on the topic of sexuality for over 20 years. Her involvement has encompassed many roles, which include a pregnancy center volunteer, multi-center Executive Director, abstinence speaker, founder of a church-based post abortion ministry and a public school-based abstinence program. As the former Sexual Integrity Specialist for Heartbeat International, Katy has traveled the world motivating and training men and women how to empower others to embrace the message of sexual wholeness. She recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to South Africa and train and inspire 23 men and women from 5 different African countries and the United Kingdom to spread this vital message of God’s plan for our sexuality.
Katy’s passion comes from her own redemptive story of God’s amazing grace. As a Christian college student she chose abortion when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. The repercussions from that choice quickly led her to a renewed and restored relationship with the lover of her soul, Jesus Christ. The struggle didn’t end there, though. Katy continued to wrestle with her past and all of the choices that she had made leading up to her abortion. She didn’t understand that her abortion wasn’t the “big” issue. It was a symptom of a much greater issue that dealt with the core of who she was.
When Katy was asked to volunteer as a local pregnancy center she thought this was the place where she could help others make a better choice than she had. But she quickly found out that her own brokenness got in the way of really helping other women. She participated in an abortion-recovery bible study and received the true healing and forgiveness she had been searching for.
God quickly showed her that this is exactly where she was to be – helping men and women understand their own sexuality and how to live it out with wholeness and truth. Katy’s passion for this message is evident in the fact that when she speaks, she changes the lives of those hearing her. Katy inspires those in need of healing and equips those in need of taking this message to others. Her motto is “We have to know the truth of who we are before we can share the truth of who they are.”
Katy is a dynamic and gifted communicator who desires that others understand that our sexuality is more than what we choose to do with our bodies – it’s who we are! The topic of sexuality is at the core of every moral issue we face…unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease, abortion, divorce, cohabitation, pornography, and sexual promiscuity. Knowing our identity in Christ and how to walk it out in wholeness and truth changes everything!
Katy, and her husband of 17 years, Steve, lives in Lewistown, Pennsylvania with their three boys. Katy, in her spare time, is a board member at her sons’ Christian school, teaches Sunday school with her husband, and leads a women’s bible study. She is also a freelance writer and has written for “Celebrate Life” magazine, a publication of American Life League, and is a regular contributor to the youth/young adult section of the National Black Catholic Congress website (www.nbcc.org). When Katy is not traveling and speaking, you will find her at home - cleaning, cooking, doing laundry and, raising three godly boys to become mighty men of God.
