In 1999, Lois Kerschen helped to found Democrats for Life of America (DFLA) and served for five years as its first president. The organization was established in response to the need of pro-life Democrats to have a forum of their own and to present a unified pro-life voice to the Democratic Party. DFLA now has an office in Washington, DC, an Executive Director, a Board of Directors with members from nine states, and an advisory board with six members of the US House and one member of the US Senate. DFLA has members in every state and chapters developing in 41 states.
DFLA’s major project, the “95-10 Initiative,” advocates steps for reducing the number of abortions in this country by 95% in 10 years. This initiative has led to the Pregnant Woman Support Act (US Senate Bill S2407 and the US House Bill HR 3192, both pending in Congress).
In her talks, Lois Kerschen explains the 95-10 Initiative and shares the history of DFLA, including the opposition to the organization from within the Democratic Party, as well as the remarkable response from other pro-life Democrats who thought they were alone. DFLA has brought a lot of pro-life Democrats out of the closet and has impacted the platform of the party.
In addition, Lois Kerschen can present the pro-life argument from a feminist perspective, showing the connection between being pro-life and pro-woman while showing the lack of logic and gross inconsistencies of the pro-abortion movement that have confused society and harmed women.
An educator and freelance writer, Lois Kerschen holds a doctorate in literature with special interests in nonfiction and reading education. Her dissertation, American Proverbs About Women, was published by Greenwood Press.
Dr. Kerschen has spoken before rallies, organizations, and audiences of every variety. Her decisive, straightforward manner, mixed with compassion and humor, catches the attention of every member of the audience and always stirs people to think through the issues.
